Moose Piss Beer

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2021

This animated packaging visualization, recognized for excellence in motion design, exemplifies the vibrant intersection of contemporary illustration practice and craft beverage culture that has emerged as a distinctive visual language in recent decades. The work demonstrates sophisticated understanding of how illustrated imagery translates across the curved surface of cylindrical packaging, with character elements strategically positioned to create continuous visual narrative as the can rotates in dimensional space. The compositional strategy employs a compartmentalized approach reminiscent of comic panel structures and trading card aesthetics, allowing multiple character vignettes to coexist within unified design architecture while maintaining clear visual hierarchy through scale differentiation and chromatic emphasis. The violet-dominant palette establishes an otherworldly atmospheric condition that removes the product from mundane commercial context, instead positioning it within imaginative territory that invites playful consumer engagement. Typography functions both as information delivery system and decorative element, with letterforms manipulated to echo the organic, slightly irreverent character of the illustrative program. The central framed portrait introduces a mascot figure whose knowing expression and warm orange coloration creates immediate focal magnetism against the cooler surrounding elements, this character potentially serving as brand ambassador across extended visual identity applications. The environmental staging with stylized mountains and decorative botanicals establishes a mythologized landscape context suggesting origin narratives and craft authenticity valued within specialty beverage markets. Technical execution demonstrates confident command of digital illustration tools while maintaining hand-drawn gestural warmth that resists sterile perfection. The work invites consideration of how animated packaging content transforms static consumer goods into dynamic storytelling vehicles, potentially extending brand engagement through temporal dimension and revealing hidden narratives through movement.

The project was elaborated to promote Moose Piss beer, created through the collaboration of Hermoso Compadre and Nordic brewery. The purpose of the animation was to tell a playful story of how the beer was supposedly created. A modern style of illustration was used, with strong colors that emphasize the humorous purpose of the work. It was done using the traditional frame-by-frame technique, to give more life and personality to the characters.
