Golden A' Design Award Winner 2022
U.P.Space Landscape Design's Guomaofu Residential Demonstration exemplifies the continued evolution of residential garden design, where traditional philosophical principles of harmony between human habitation and natural environment find expression through contemporary formal vocabulary. The composition demonstrates remarkable sophistication in its orchestration of water, stone, vegetation, and pathway into a coherent experiential sequence that invites both physical movement and contemplative pause. The curvilinear brick pathway functions as the primary organizational element, its gentle arc establishing a kinetic rhythm that draws residents through varied spatial experiences while maintaining visual continuity across the garden's breadth. The designer's mastery of plantscape layering appears in the careful gradation from low groundcover masses that suggest rolling terrain to sculptural pine specimens that provide vertical punctuation and frame views toward the architecture beyond. The integration of weathered limestone boulders demonstrates sensitivity to the scholarly rock tradition in garden design, where naturally formed stones become objects of aesthetic contemplation, their irregular surfaces and varied coloration contributing textural richness to the otherwise soft palette of vegetation. The reflective water element introduces stillness and mirror-quality luminosity, capturing the sky's pale expanse and grounding the composition in atmospheric connection between earth and heaven. The architectural elements visible in the background maintain appropriate visual subordination while establishing the essential dialogue between built shelter and cultivated landscape that defines residential garden design. This work invites contemplation of how contemporary design practice might continue honoring traditional garden wisdom while responding to the spatial expectations and aesthetic sensibilities of present-day residential living.
Guomaofu not only has a cultural origin of imperial garden, but also has a modern concept of landscape. The core idea is to create a poetic and picturesque space, which injects oriental style into the design and spreads the context of Chinese traditional aesthetics. The design combines the new oriental garden landscape of water, stone, forest, pine, book, tea and music to form a unique landscape garden system. Creating a tourist, feasible, hopeful and livable landscape, as if through a thousand years, reproducing the wind of leisurely and natural life.
