Golden A' Design Award Winner 2022

Angela Spindler's By Beth Collagen Supplement Packaging represents a distinguished achievement in contemporary wellness product design, demonstrating how functional packaging can transcend mere containment to become an object of enduring aesthetic value within domestic environments. The work emerges from a design philosophy that honors material authenticity, allowing each component—the luminous green glass, the warm-grained wooden closure, the understated paper identifier—to communicate its inherent qualities without artifice or excessive ornamentation. The selection of translucent emerald glass establishes immediate associations with botanical vitality and natural wellness traditions, while simultaneously elevating the product beyond disposable commodity status toward a reusable vessel worthy of display. This approach demonstrates sophisticated understanding of contemporary consumer desires for products that align with environmental consciousness and aesthetic discernment, objects that contribute positively to living spaces rather than demanding concealment. The formal vocabulary draws upon mid-century Scandinavian design principles—truth to materials, functional beauty, democratic elegance—while incorporating distinctly contemporary sensibilities regarding sustainability and brand storytelling. The wooden lid element introduces crucial tactile warmth and organic variation, its visible grain patterns providing visual interest that rewards close examination while suggesting craft traditions and natural sourcing. Compositionally, the packaging achieves remarkable presence through confident proportional relationships: the substantial base provides visual stability, the gently tapering walls create upward momentum, and the wooden crown delivers satisfying visual completion. The restrained typographic treatment, visible on the hanging tag with its vertical text orientation, demonstrates editorial restraint that allows material and form to communicate brand values more eloquently than elaborate graphic intervention might achieve. One might contemplate how this design philosophy—wherein the container becomes as considered as its contents—reflects evolving relationships between consumers and the objects that populate daily rituals of self-care.

The agency was commissioned to create a visual identity system and packaging design, including a bespoke vessel for this luxury atelier. Where possible all materials were selected based on their environmental credentials, ranging from the use of post-consumer waste, FSC papers and soy-based inks. The packaging uses a colour palette of dark green and light pastel hues, high quality materials, structures and subtle print finishes to create a tangible sense of both luxury and prestige.
