Dance with Life Public Art

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2023

Situated within the distinguished tradition of monumental public sculpture that seeks to animate civic and residential spaces with transcendent aesthetic experiences, Dance with Life by Kuo Kuo-Hsiang exemplifies the contemporary practice of deploying industrial materials and precision fabrication techniques to achieve effects of extraordinary visual poetry and symbolic resonance. The work participates in a lineage extending from Constantin Brancusi's explorations of polished bronze and the soaring aspirations of his endless columns, through the reflective monumentality of Anish Kapoor's mirrored forms, to the kinetic suggestions found in works by artists such as Richard Serra and Alice Aycock, yet establishes its own distinctive vocabulary through the harmonious interplay of three helical ribbons ascending in unified choreography. The technical achievement evident in the sculpture's execution demonstrates remarkable command of metalworking craft—the seamless welding, flawless mirror finishing, and structural engineering required to support such an attenuated vertical form speak to sophisticated workshop practices and deep material understanding. Compositionally, the work generates visual interest from multiple vantage points, as the viewer's circumambulation reveals continuously shifting reflections, shadow patterns, and formal relationships between the intertwining elements. The chromatic decision to introduce a golden-hued central ribbon amid the silver outer bands creates hierarchical emphasis while suggesting alchemical transformation or spiritual illumination at the work's core. Thematically, the sculpture appears to celebrate vital energy, growth, aspiration, and the interconnectedness of life forces—the helical form perhaps evoking DNA structures, flame, or the invisible currents of wind and spirit that animate existence. The thoughtful dialogue established between this contemporary intervention and its neoclassical architectural setting invites contemplation of continuity and innovation across artistic traditions, suggesting that beauty and human creative aspiration remain constant even as their material expressions evolve.

The symbol of infinity conveys the concept of endlessness and greatness. Its smooth and vivid shapes highlight the infinite freedom of life exploration, and convey an atmosphere that is fresh, beautiful, and rejuvenating! This public sculpture with a winding structure is installed on a pool at the center of a circular plaza. It is an important landmark, Hope to make people feel the wonder between life and the universe.
