Golden A' Design Award Winner 2023
The packaging design for this sparkling wine collection represents a compelling synthesis of heritage celebration and contemporary visual sophistication, positioning the product within traditions of European winemaking excellence while employing distinctly modern graphic sensibilities. The prominent display of the founding year establishes temporal depth and authenticity, invoking the prestige associated with established viniculture traditions while the bold numerical treatment suggests confidence and accessibility to contemporary audiences. The color-coded label system demonstrates strategic brand architecture, enabling clear product line differentiation through chromatic variation while maintaining cohesive visual identity through consistent typographic hierarchy, layout structure, and material specifications. Particularly noteworthy is the sophisticated interplay between historical reference and modern minimalism evident in the label typography, where elegant script letterforms suggesting nineteenth-century refinement coexist harmoniously with bold sans-serif and geometric elements characteristic of contemporary packaging design. The diagonal presentation creates visual dynamism that elevates standard product photography into compositional territory more commonly associated with still life painting traditions, suggesting the care and intentionality applied to every aspect of brand expression. The warm amber and rose variations visible through the glass establish product authenticity while creating chromatic richness that rewards extended viewing. Material choices including the textured gilt foil capsules signal premium positioning through tactile luxury, inviting the implied touch that precedes the ceremonial act of opening. One might contemplate how such packaging design serves simultaneously as protective vessel, informational medium, and cultural signifier, transforming a consumable product into an object worthy of aesthetic appreciation and celebratory ritual.
The Bolgrad brand embodies the essence of the southern regions of the Ukrainian coast: light atmosphere, great climate and good winemaking. The year 1821, which is indicated on the label and is its centerpiece, is the year the city of Bolgrad, located in the Odessa region in the south of the country, was founded. Bolgrad is the first Ukrainian producer who decided to bring to the market a sparkling wine in a lower and wider bottle, which is more typical of western producers. The design of this product reflects progressiveness, high status and adherence to European traditions of winemaking.
