Melandb club Indoor Playground

Platinum A' Design Award Winner 2024

Li Xiang's celebrated Meland Club Indoor Playground represents a remarkable achievement in contemporary experiential interior design, synthesizing influences from Art Deco's geometric elegance with biomechanical fantasy to create an environment that transforms the conventional children's play space into an immersive theatrical experience. The designer demonstrates exceptional command of spatial drama through the orchestration of an elaborate ceiling installation featuring perforated panels arranged in radial symmetry, their dot-matrix surfaces creating optical phenomena that engage visitors from the moment of entry. The chromatic strategy reveals sophisticated understanding of color psychology in environments designed for children and families, balancing the calming authority of deep blue structural elements against energizing warm accents that activate the composition's center without overwhelming the visual field. Particular accomplishment emerges in the integration of the central wind-up key motif, which functions simultaneously as practical lighting fixture, wayfinding landmark, and thematic anchor establishing the imaginative premise of a world brought to life through mechanical wonder. The winged sculptural element positioned above the reception counter demonstrates remarkable attention to material finish and detail resolution, its graduated coral tones creating depth through chromatic progression while mechanical detailing rewards extended contemplation. The environmental design philosophy evident throughout suggests understanding that children's spaces benefit from complexity and visual richness rather than simplified or infantilized aesthetics, trusting young visitors to engage meaningfully with sophisticated formal vocabulary. The reflective archways extending at periphery create spatial ambiguity that expands perceived boundaries while maintaining the intimate scale appropriate to welcoming families. Viewers might contemplate how such environments shape childhood memories of wonder and how design can honor children's capacity for aesthetic appreciation while creating spaces that equally engage accompanying adults.

Meland Club combines five major themes of Insects, Oceans, Land, Sky, and Jungle, to create a Wondrous Museum of Nature, full of futuristic mechanical aesthetics. Architectural logic, art installations, mechanical technological aesthetics, philosophy, and popular science education are unprecedentedly integrated into an exquisite, complex creative scheme, constructing a comprehensive indoor parent-child theme park encompassing family amusement, art appreciation, aesthetic education, popular science, and creative enlightenment, a fantasy universe transcending yet tangible to reality.
