2021 Hua Chenyu Mars Concert Stage

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2025

Within the realm of contemporary performance architecture, Peng Guo's 2021 Hua Chenyu Mars Concert Stage represents a remarkable achievement in the synthesis of structural engineering, parametric design methodology, and experiential spatial creation, the installation emerges from traditions of temporary architectural spectacle while simultaneously pushing toward new frontiers of biomimetic form-making and computational optimization, the canopy structure appears to draw inspiration from natural growth patterns observed in radiolaria, coral formations, and other organic lattice systems where material efficiency and structural integrity achieve elegant synthesis, this approach positions the work within broader contemporary explorations of how digital fabrication tools and algorithmic design processes can generate forms that appear simultaneously alien and deeply familiar through their resonance with biological precedents, the technical accomplishment evident in the sweeping curves and attenuated supporting members suggests sophisticated understanding of load distribution and material behavior, while the choice of pristine white finish elevates the structure from mere engineering solution to sculptural presence commanding the visual landscape, thematically the work explores the relationship between individual human presence and collective gathering, the protective canopy creating shelter for thousands while maintaining visual permeability through its open lattice pattern, this tension between enclosure and openness, between monumentality and transparency, invites contemplation of how architecture shapes social experience and communal identity, the surrounding context featuring traditional maritime vessels and varied architectural forms creates rich visual dialogue between heritage and innovation, suggesting continuity of human creative aspiration across temporal boundaries, viewers might consider how such temporary structures transform ordinary landscapes into sites of shared memory and collective joy

In preparation for a unique music event, the design features three innovative stage structures, creating an engaging experience for the audience. The stage adapts to the vibrant atmosphere of the daytime and harmonizes with the natural surroundings at night. To meet the acoustic requirements of the extended platform, the team worked collaboratively to integrate the sound system into the stage design, ensuring optimal audio performance.
