Sphere Vase

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2025

The Sphere Vase by Nicolas Woll exemplifies a distinguished approach to contemporary decorative vessel design that bridges the precision of modern manufacturing with the timeless appeal of organic natural forms, positioning itself within a broader movement toward biomorphic design language that has characterized twenty-first century decorative arts, the collection presented here demonstrates the designer's sophisticated understanding of how repeated linear elements can transform simple volumetric shapes into objects of visual complexity and tactile invitation, the ribbed surface treatment creates an interplay of light and shadow that varies throughout the day as illumination shifts, ensuring the vessels remain dynamic rather than static presences within domestic interiors, the choice of a warm neutral colorway suggests an awareness of contemporary interior design trends favoring earth tones that complement rather than compete with varied decor schemes, the inclusion of leather cord details introduces material contrast and references artisanal craft traditions while the tags serve as markers of provenance and authenticity, technically the consistent precision of the ribbed channels across three different scales demonstrates manufacturing excellence while the organic bulbous silhouettes soften any impression of mechanical coldness, the forms themselves evoke botanical precedents including seed pods, gourds, and bulbs suggesting themes of growth, potential, and natural abundance, when styled with dried botanical specimens as shown here the vessels complete a visual narrative connecting human making with natural forms, viewers might contemplate how contemporary design increasingly seeks to reconcile technological capability with organic sensibility, how objects designed for domestic use carry aesthetic as well as functional responsibilities, and how the simplest forms when executed with refinement and thoughtfulness can elevate everyday environments into spaces of beauty and contemplation.

The vases from Iconic Home become objects with an extraordinary depth effect. The alternating play of deep grooves and clear lines on the outside give the vases their special aesthetic appeal. Depending on the incidence of light, the vases can be rediscovered from every angle. The iconic vases are elaborately 3D-printed from bio-based PLA in the company's own design factory in Germany. Quality takes time: layer by layer, each vase is created in a manufacturing process that takes up to 15 hours and focuses not only on the fascinating shapes but also on sustainability.
