Zhenbaoguan Museum

Zhenbaoguan Museum by Zhao Yunhai represents a distinguished achievement in contemporary interior design that synthesizes traditional aesthetic principles with innovative spatial thinking to create an environment of remarkable sophistication and cultural resonance. The space appears to engage with longstanding traditions of the scholar's studio and collector's cabinet, reimagined through a contemporary architectural vocabulary that emphasizes bold geometric expression in the striking angular ceiling structure. This overhead architecture, with its rhythmic interplay of dark linear elements and luminous panels, may reference traditional roof construction while asserting a distinctly modern formal identity through its dramatic angles and precise material articulation. The designer demonstrates exceptional command of material relationships, establishing a dialogue between the warmth of the herringbone wood flooring and the cooler presence of ebony-toned millwork, while the marble banding introduces refined textural variation that elevates the perimeter walls. Particularly noteworthy is the treatment of the display wall, where illuminated niches showcase collected objects against backgrounds featuring flowing organic patterns that suggest landscape imagery rendered in gold, creating intimate moments of visual discovery within the larger architectural statement. The client loved to collect wine, client wanted to have a large wine wall to display, and to talk about Chinese wine culture when showing guests around, each bottle of wine has its own representative of Chinese culture. When designed the wine wall, thought of the Oriental Symmetry Aesthetics as an art philosophy, and the wine wall was displayed in a balanced way on both sides of the main corridor, and this symmetrical form has a solemn sense of order.
