Rams City Sales Office

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2025

Arkiteam Architecture's Rams City Sales Office emerges from a rich tradition of Mediterranean modernism that seeks harmonious synthesis between regional material cultures and contemporary architectural expression, the design demonstrating remarkable sensitivity to the dialogue between mass and transparency, between geometric rigor and organic reference. The composition achieves its considerable visual impact through the masterful juxtaposition of a monumental curved stone volume against the crystalline lightness of an extensive glazed envelope, creating dynamic tension between opacity and translucency that invites contemplation of shelter and exposure, permanence and permeability. The selection of warm-toned stone cladding, likely travertine or a regional limestone, grounds the structure within its Mediterranean context while the precision of the timber batten screening system suggests Japanese architectural influences, demonstrating the sophisticated cross-cultural synthesis characteristic of accomplished contemporary practice. Technical merit reveals itself in the seamless integration of multiple material systems, the careful alignment of horizontal concrete bands, the precisely calibrated rhythm of vertical timber elements, and the elegant curve of the sculptural stone mass that terminates the composition with bold geometric assertion. The paired Italian cypress specimens function as living architectural elements, their dark vertical profiles establishing dialogue with both the timber screening above and the arched interior portal visible through the glass, suggesting continuity between landscape and built form. Thematic content addresses fundamental questions of threshold and welcome, the transparent facade dematerializing barriers between public realm and commercial interior while the arched elements visible within promise spatial sequences of discovery and revelation. One might consider how this work balances aspirational commercial messaging with genuine architectural quality, transforming the typically ephemeral sales pavilion into a structure worthy of contemplation and lasting presence.

Located in Istanbul’s old quarter, the Rams City Sales Office features a design that draws inspiration from the area’s architectural traditions. The use of arches and a domed roof reflects familiar influences, while a single tree at the entrance introduces a natural element. The concrete and steel facade follows a straightforward and durable approach, creating a practical space that acknowledges the past while accommodating present needs. Inside, the layout is designed to offer a welcoming and functional environment for visitors.
