Silver A' Design Award Winner 2025
PepsiCo Design and Innovation's Fiera Preta 2024 Food packaging emerges from the vibrant intersection of contemporary street culture aesthetics and celebratory visual communication, embodying a design philosophy that transforms functional snack packaging into a canvas for exuberant artistic expression and cultural connection, the work demonstrates remarkable sophistication in its deployment of high-saturation chromatic relationships where hot magenta gradients transition through coral to white creating luminous triangular forms that function simultaneously as geometric anchors and portals of visual energy, the integration of figurative illustration depicting a performer in dynamic striped attire suggests themes of musical celebration, creative expression, and communal festivity that transcend mere product identification to establish emotional resonance with audiences seeking connection through shared cultural moments, the compositional strategy of presenting multiple packaging units in diagonal tessellation reveals the designer's understanding of retail visibility and shelf impact while also creating an artwork-like quality suitable for promotional documentation, the lightning bolt motifs piercing the composition in brilliant yellow establish directional vectors that energize the visual field and suggest the electrical excitement of live performance and gathering, scattered celestial elements including stars and clouds soften the graphic intensity with touches of whimsy and wonder, the typography demonstrates careful brand stewardship through dimensional treatment that maintains legibility while contributing to the overall festive atmosphere, the black background substrate functions as theatrical darkness from which the chromatic explosion emerges, suggesting nighttime celebration and the transformative power of entertainment to illuminate ordinary moments, viewers might consider how packaging design increasingly serves as cultural artifact and artistic medium, communicating values of joy, connection, and creative vitality that extend far beyond the contained product.
Feira Preta is the biggest event of Black culture in Latin America. From its start 16 years ago as a fair, the event grew into a three day festival, a celebratory space where material and symbolic goods are exchanged, where roots are preserved and knowledge is transferred from one generation to the next. As part of our global diversity and inclusion platform, Doritos wanted to help amplify the voices that often go unheard, ensuring bold voices are given the opportunity to create positive change.
