Loong Swim Club

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2020

Li Xiang's Loong Swim Club represents a remarkable achievement in contemporary recreational interior design, transforming a functional aquatic facility into an immersive environment that invites visitors into a realm of unbounded imagination and visual enchantment. The design demonstrates extraordinary command of spatial manipulation through the strategic deployment of a mirrored ceiling that effectively doubles the visual complexity of the sculptural program while suggesting infinite vertical expansion beyond physical boundaries. The biomorphic sculptural elements, rendered in carefully calibrated hues ranging from cool slate blue through warm peach to fresh sage green, exhibit meticulous attention to decorative detail, with each form featuring distinctive surface patterns including concentric medallions, scalloped borders, and organic arabesques that reward sustained visual exploration. The chromatic strategy achieves sophisticated balance through analogous color harmony tempered by strategic complementary relationships, creating visual interest without overwhelming the senses. The dramatic black-and-white polka dot flooring establishes a graphic foundation that grounds the organic exuberance above while introducing playful geometric rhythm into the composition. This interior environment suggests dialogue with various artistic traditions including Surrealist biomorphism, the immersive installations of contemporary experiential design, and the joyful maximalism that characterizes celebratory public spaces designed to transport visitors beyond quotidian experience. The integration of functional seating elements within the sculptural landscape demonstrates thoughtful consideration of human use within the fantastical environment. Visitors might contemplate how the environment transforms the experience of entering a recreational facility into an encounter with wonder, and how such spaces might cultivate imaginative engagement across generations of users.

The combination of service-oriented business with new business forms is a trend. The designer experimentally integrates the subsidiary functions of the project with main business, re-optimizes the main functions of parent-child sports training, and builds the project into a comprehensive space for swimming and sports education, integrating entertainment and leisure.
